This is the story of one Purdy von Sweets, kitwit and coffee fiend.
For weeks my night light has been falling out of the wall plug. I have tightened the tines to no avail. Finally I got them so tight it may never come out of the expander I have on the light switch so I can plug my electric toothbrush in, too. Last night I am minding my own business and suddenly Purdy jumps up on the sink and grabs a miller with both paws. Both paws are wrapped around the bright little LED night light and out of the wall it comes and own in the sink. Seems my night light had a lot of help coming out of the socket. However, I must explain that according to the Cat Accords, this is not Purdy fault. All the blame lies with the Miller who should not have allowed itself to be attracted to bright little LED's.
This does not end my story. After I got the bathroom put back together, Purdy sneaked into the bedroom and went to bed with me. As soon as my alarm went off, I dismissed it and turned over to get a good sleep-in. At least that was the plan. Purdy had the coffee Jones. She start with the incessant brupping and trilling at the door. When that failed to extricate me from my nice soft bed, she graduated to kneading me into submission. When that failed, she began grabbing me by the fingers and trying to physically drag me out of the bed. Then she moved on to just plain biting. Needless-to-say, I got up and fixed her some ground coffee and breakfast. There is no rest for the cat owned.
The Microwits are showing independent personalities and the beginning of play. They will be ready on conquer the house in a couple of weeks or sooner. They are the cutest little butterballs you have ever seen. Their mother's brother is outside and we have been feeding him and trying to tame him for a snipping at the vets.

Last night the little Black Girl and the boy we are now calling Bluemantoo, sat on my lap and watched TV like they actually knew what was going on.
I placed a nice towel on our old chair and let it hang down too far. Now Bitwit is under it pulling sneak attacks on our ankles.

A gal was totally bent out of shape at a tire dealer because they were late getting her car done, the price was higher than advertised and she was late to an appointment. Can you believe it is 90 degrees outside. The humidity must be getting close to 100%. I am covered in a thin sheen of wetness. Blueman’s whole family arrived today to show their respects: Moonprobe, Paganwit and Yowler. They were all waiting for me when I got to the shop. We haven’t seen Paganwit in over two months. His ear is notched so the whole family is now spayed and neutered. For the first time, he looks like his sister, Bitwit. They have the same nose.
Bitwit is still a tad stiff but she is up and eating. She knows something is different, she just doesn’t know what. I guess the hormone soup is thinning. I got some experimental medicine for flea control for feral cats. I’ve mixed it up and put the bowl out. Bitwit signaled someone was eating. I stealthily cracked the door open only to find the Blue Jay eating the food. I guess he won’t have fleas. Back to the drawing board on that one. I have discover there is no limit to the amount of fresh catnip leaves Ra will eat but there is finite limit on her ability to jump accurately afterwards.
Goddess, last night Napoleon comes out of the kitty pan like a rocket, bounces all the way up to Prescious’ hideaway at the ceiling, bounces off him and whacks me on the way to the door. I got to the door before he made another circuit and I had nothing left standing and a broken hip. He is at the door, head down, front feet pacing up and down and ass wiggling. I opened the door and he out like a shot. Then I here crashes as he hit’s the kitty log in the hall, jumps straight into the bathroom on top of the door, swats several imaginary things on the ceiling, hit’s the sink and dives into the rest of the house! I had no idea using a kitty pan could make a cat feel that good!
If you are in Dade or Broward County, keep your cats in the house. We have a cat killer/mutilator on the loose and considering several bags of human body parts washed up on the shore line, he may have graduated to humans or it may be unrelated. One thing is for sure, he will graduate to humans. Be careful out there and if you see anyone trying to lure cats, call the cops. This person is dangerous and crazy.

Finally, Bitwit is spayed and the Vanwitch is serviced. I can return to a normal working routine. One thing I have learned is that I cannot nap. It totally destroys my ability to sleep at night and leaves me feeling sick. I also cannot get by with a few hours of sleep. I guess old age has got me.
Now it is time to get ready for the Moonfaire! Vanwitch has to be packed, tents checked, some sewing done, table coverings checked and of course, stock readied. Doing a one day show in Miami is going to be an experience. But the cats will be happy we will be missing only a day. Heck, they probably won’t even notice we left as long as no one interrupts their 18 hour nap. Internet shopping will be available that day but it seems I am the only person in the Universe that can operate the cash register so I will just leave our security person in charge, probably napping with the cats. Hey, we all do it. They crawl on your lap, inject you with cat pheromones and the next thing you know someone catches you snoring. That’s why we have surveillance cameras. You never know when the purring Isis will strike…ZZZZZ…
The Microwits learned to hold their tails straight up today. That is some sort of a developmental milestone as they learned to launch themselves at the same time. I don't know exactly how the two are connected except maybe the tail is some sort of trigger mechanism. The little black girl learned to scream for her breakfast. Then this morning, she was found on her mother’s box perch where she does to get a break from the little suckers and I mean that literally. One Microwit is spoken for. Their mother is very sweet and will be ready for adoption. She is a very small cat, sort of a tabby with orange feet. I will get a picture of her. She is very young. Someone dumped her an her brother or sister here. Unfortunately, that one doesn't trust me yet. As soon as it does, we are talking one quick trip to the vet. The Inn is at full capacity.
Our old Blueman passed away in his sleep this afternoon. He was taking a nap in the sun and passed. He was an old alley cat that has hung around the shop for years, never letting us touch him. A week ago he started letting us touch him and stopped running from us. Yesterday he actually came in the shop and walked around looking at everything before asking to leave. Then he let me stroke him on the altar. He was the father of the Kitwits and Bitwit. He always brought his pregnant girls to the shop for me to take care of. He may be Loki, Solstice, and Ra’s father, too. Possibly Isis though I think she was one of his girls. She is very old. He will be missed but I have a feeling I have his next body in the cage at home. Yes, they come back to us.

The Bitwit is home! She was very upset about no food, being stuffed in a carrier and taken to a strange place. She is not feeling that well as is evidenced by the fact that she has not eaten yet. A Bitwit off her feed is a pitiful thing indeed. She up walking around and not being very forgiving of the person who took her to that horrible place: me!
There are quite a few new advances in Veterinary care since I spayed and neutered the Kitwit’s a few months ago. There is a flea pill for dogs that is beef flavored and it is said to work great. There is a new wormer you apply to the cats neck like Advantage, so no more trying to stuff pills down them. And the worming paste I bought from New Zealand got the Okay. That they will eat. So life is getting much easier in cat land.
As to me, I am exhausted. Spaying the cats takes as much out of me as it does them as I sit here and worry myself sick. Tomorrow, the world will return to what passes for normal in my life, I hope. It will be back to work.
A while ago I had someone ask me why something happened. They paid a worker for a spell and it didn’t work. Then they went to worker “B” and paid for the same work and it worked. Naturally they were disappointed in worker “A”. Then, they returned to worker “B” and paid for another spell and it didn’t work. Having no where to turn, they returned to worker “A” and paid for the same spell and it worked. Are your eyes rolling around yet? This often happens when you are trying to push something that just should not be pushed just yet. The odds are if she had waited, she would not have had to double pay and the first spells would have kicked in. I always tell people to look for tiny steps. I will do a money spell and maybe find a dollar. Sometimes, it just floats down from the ceiling and I have no idea what that is about. Then a couple of weeks later, the money starts flowing. I always discover that had I pushed it, I would have gotten a lot less money that I do by waiting. Now, when I checked this gal’s astrological chart, it looked like just about everything in the heavens was retrograde including being born as the Moon was waning. Nothing is coming into her life rapidly and she is the most impatient person in the world. When doing a reading for her, I can’t get my mouth open to answer one question before she is hitting me with two more. Eventually, the Universe is going to teach her patience.
I was watching a show on ABC last night showing the last ditch scenarios for planet Earth. One man said something I really love. He said if you refuse to compromise, you will be back at the negotiating table with a new partner: Reality and you won’t be getting a good deal with that partner.

My excursions are planned in a neat circle so I don’t have to go out but about once or twice a week. If I had to shop daily, I would be suicidal. If I can get it delivered, all the better. I’ve not had an incandescent light bulb in years. I am living for the day I can afford a solar hot water heater. My appliances are high efficiency. Yes, I grew up with the Depression Mentality my parents gave me and it sure comes in handy now-a-days. Now if we could just get the local government to go on a diet that doesn’t involve laying people off. I mean seriously, I am willing to bet that just taking a look at how much they pay for cleaning supplies, electricity and little things could save us millions. That is where you start to cut a budget. You shop at cheaper stores. You buy generic brands. You get rid of the bells and whistles on your phone and TV. Heck, I’m down to an outside antennae. You start turning the lights off when you leave the room. In the school system alone, they could save a lot of money and most of it at the top. Maybe we should let the kids run the place. They are more ecologically savvy than the administrators. You can sell that aluminum you are recycling…..Use shop to teach them to repair desks and tables. That is something they will be able to use. Have them learn to repair and maintain real appliances in the electronics lab. That’s a skill that will make them money! Let them do oil changes and repair real cars. Why do you think the beauty schools are so solvent? The students work on real people who are paying for the service at a cut rate. Everyone is winning. Think about it.

The Bitwit is home! She was very upset about no food, being stuffed in a carrier and taken to a strange place. She is not feeling that well as is evidenced by the fact that she has not eaten yet. A Bitwit off her feed is a pitiful thing indeed. She up walking around and not being very forgiving of the person who took her to that horrible place: me!
There are quite a few new advances in Veterinary care since I spayed and neutered the Kitwit’s a few months ago. There is a flea pill for dogs that is beef flavored and it is said to work great. There is a new wormer you apply to the cats neck like Advantage, so no more trying to stuff pills down them. And the worming paste I bought from New Zealand got the Okay. That they will eat. So life is getting much easier in cat land.
As to me, I am exhausted. Spaying the cats takes as much out of me as it does them as I sit here and worry myself sick. Tomorrow, the world will return to what passes for normal in my life, I hope. It will be back to work.
A while ago I had someone ask me why something happened. They paid a worker for a spell and it didn’t work. Then they went to worker “B” and paid for the same work and it worked. Naturally they were disappointed in worker “A”. Then, they returned to worker “B” and paid for another spell and it didn’t work. Having no where to turn, they returned to worker “A” and paid for the same spell and it worked. Are your eyes rolling around yet? This often happens when you are trying to push something that just should not be pushed just yet. Nothing is coming into her life rapidly and she is the most impatient person in the world. When doing a reading for her, I can’t get my mouth open to answer one question before she is hitting me with two more. Eventually, the Universe is going to teach her patience.

Vanwitch lives! It is a good thing she is under warranty because it was an air valve. The good news is that it explains the stalling. The valve was intermittent and the stalling also had no rhyme or reason. She has an oil change and a tire rotation. Coral Castle, here we come! When I found out, I wanted to run over an throw my arms around her. Last time she was left alone, she was sold. She must be scared on that lot all alone. Then again, she may be flirting with those Lincolns and Mercuries that share the Ford dealership. You can never be sure with her. When we left her in the parking lot a the Dermatologist we returned to find a huge truck snuggled up next to her. I always find the strangest vehicles snuggled next to her. It makes it darned hard to back out of the parking lot. She was returned today, running as smooth as glass and happy to be home. One more oil change before the warranty expires and of course, complete check up.
I was thrown for a loop when I got the call that I have basal cell carcinomas on my face. I am pretty ashamed of myself because I knew that all along. I think it was when they described removing one layer of skin at a time, freezing it, inspecting it under a microscope until they got the good stuff and then stitched me up that got me under local anesthesia or it could have been the fact that it is an all day procedure. Shouldn’t “completely unconscious” be in that sentence somewhere? “Local” shouldn’t be in there! At least it will be an actual surgeon doing the job and not a dermatologist with a scalpel in her hand. That will be in the “fun things” to do next month category. Yup, in good old tropical Florida, it takes that long to get the surgery because the schedule is full up!
I came into the shop at around 9:30 this morning. The cats were shocked. So, I started on the forecast. Now Ra did her level best to be the annoying pet me pest she is. Finally she fell asleep leaning on the magick box trying to get a scratch. I won’t say they were glad to get rid of me, but when I got home and turned the cam on, it was obvious every cat had crawled into their nap spot and disappeared. Before I left this morning, Napoleon had crawled onto my lap and hooked his claws in, clinging for dear life. I am not allowed to leave in the morning. When I returned around 11, he crawled into my lap and purred up a storm. To her credit, little Purdy von Sweets, spent the afternoon laying on me, purring and kneading, trying to keep me calm and safe. The Kitwits really are a loving little family.
I had gathered the plastic golf balls and put them in the shower to clean them with my nightly shower. Painstakingly, one by one, Josephina has carried each ball out hooked in her fang. Since she learned to hook her fang through the holes, she has been in complete control of the golf balls. Next week, I do it again.
One scary thing I noticed this morning on the way to the Ford dealership was the absence of traffic. A year ago, I would have been in bumper to bumper traffic. By 8:30 when we got to Denny’s for a quick breakfast, the place was empty. A year ago it would have been crowded. Oh, if you order the new Grandslamwich, they put powdered sugar on the edges so if like me you aren’t a fan of a sweet breakfast sandwich, you have to tell them. I could only eat half it is so big, so George had a huge lunch. We were accosted in the parking lot for money. The waitress told us that these young men wait until they are busy and then wander in and steal the tips off the table. I have enough sense to hold my purse tight when I see someone on a bike approaching me in a parking lot and to be ready to knock them down, so we fared fine in the parking lot. George ran interference and I skirted the guy and got to the door. There was scarcely anyone at Costco getting gas. Need I say the economy is bad.
Michael Moore published a good essay on GM yesterday. Yes, they have been their own downfall. Yes, we need to change our ideas about public transportation and drive less in more efficient cars. Unfortunately, the point at which I disagree with the essay is where the responsibility is dropped on the poor driver. Raising gas taxes is not going to solve the problem. The problem really originates in the job sector. In any good job, you are expected to be able to stay overtime at the drop of a hat. Now if you are depending on a car pool or public transportation, you can’t stay and get home. If you don’t stay, you may not have a job or a home. Then there is the attitude about public transport. In this country we can’t seem to run it on time. Every other country I have ever been in has had no problem with that! What is our problem? In other countries, you get on the bus or tube and there is a place to put packages and you don’t have to worry about anyone taking them. Martha had a woman walking off with her little suitcase out of baggage claim in Maui! You wouldn’t dare leave an empty bag sitting on a seat in the bus here and even have to watch your purse on airplanes. Stealing has become the cultural norm. It seems like every other commercial on TV glorifies stealing. Just watch them closely some day for the hidden message. Watch one Eggo commercial and I rest my case.
The other attitude problem is a really funny one. I wanted to take the Metrorail to Miami to the zoo. I have tried to get someone to go with me. After several failed attempts I discovered that my problem was not the zoo or Metrorail. The problem was public restrooms. People are afraid of them. Folks, the handle on the shopping cart you grab and let your kids hold on to, have snacks in and chew on is dirtier than the toilet seat or floor in a public restroom. Yes, it has been tested. Over half the carts were found to have feces and urine on the handles. They are never cleaned. Restrooms are cleaned and disinfected. Heck, I am trying to recover from a varient of Norwalk (I know I can’t spell it) virus I know I got at the pharmacy counter not in the restroom. I wasn’t in the restroom. I don’t know where your mothers got their phobias originally from, but they are invalid. If you are going to catch something, it is going to be somewhere else. Not only that but darn it, if you aren’t going to use the seat, put it up. The handicapped stall is not for fifteen kids. It is for people who have problems getting up and down. They can’t hover, so keep it clean in there. One day you will be old or disabled and then you will be as angry as the person you find waiting for that stall. They put a family restroom in every turnpike rest stop and I have yet to see one used. But every handicapped stall has a mother several little kids in it. Do you have any idea how easy it is for a kid to fall off (or into) that high toilet and crack their head open or to get their little arms caught in those safety rails and broken? That is not a safe place for a child. They can easily come up under those high sinks and whack their heads. Keep them out of those stalls.

I had the Microwits in for some play time. The two black ones managed to access a ‘forbidden’ website. I have no idea what that means but it is the last time I let them near the keyboard. Those little paws are just key sized. Good Goddess, next thing I know they will be ordering salmon and tuna. You should have seen them. Both of them were sitting in front of the laptop, little paws on the keys and scratch pad working away.
Fresh catnip is way more potent that the dried stuff and trust me, Cosmic Catnip packs a punch. Poor Ra had one leaf and missed the table landing in my lap. Since I have been giving her some, she has lost all fear of the boys or anything.
I just finished Madeline Alts’ series A Bewitching Mystery. These book are great. The protagonist is a lapsed Catholic learning about Wicca and her own abilities as an Empath in a very traditionally Fundamentalist town. These books are great for anyone and might be a nice introduction for Muggles to the Craft and Metaphysics. I had started doing a lot of shielding a few months back because I seemed to be picking up a lot of other people emotional garbage. I didn’t realize how critical it was until I read these novels. We tend to let a lot of background noise in and not consider how it is wearing you down.
Poor Vanwitch is in the shop and I am a worried mother and vanless. I am beside myself. I can’t have her back until at least tomorrow and Bitwit has to go to the vet on Wednesday. I must have my van back! Of course, George is in for a Tuesday. It seems there is the 8 PM, Midnight, 4 AM and 7 AM can of cat food, but all the shop cats get cut off at 6 PM on Tuesday. That’s 3 missing cans and Bitwit is the most vocal and clawy of the group. She will be fit to be tied by the time she is at the Vet’s.
